A Note from Woodinville Police Chief Larson

A Note to Woodinville Citizens from Chief Larson
Posted on 05/31/2020

I have been monitoring the situation in Seattle and across the county and have been in contact with Woodinville PD staff and our city manager.

What happened in Minneapolis is unconscionable and I have no words to adequately describe my outrage at the actions of the officer and those officers who stood by and did not intervene.

I have been in law enforcement for 36 years, right out of college, and I have never seen anything so egregious.

I have loved every minute of my career and am very proud to be in law enforcement and serve the communities to which I've been assigned over the years.

The Minneapolis officer's actions and the lack of action by the back-up officers are at total and complete odds to our mission: to protect and serve.

I was in Portland yesterday and heard one of their City Council members speak regarding the death of Mr. Floyd, the subsequent protests and then rioting and destruction of property. She quoted Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his quote resonated with me. I think the quote is relevant to what happened in Minneapolis and something we can all pay heed to.

"There comes a time when silence is betrayal. Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends."

I believe in free speech and I wholeheartedly endorse folks' right to peacefully protest in an effort to create awareness and promote change.

The actions of a few have had a grave impact on those of us who do the right thing every day for no other reason that it is the right thing to do.

We all need to step up, say something, do something when we see something that isn't right, and yes, law enforcement must do the right thing and be held to a high standard.

I will keep you updated as things progress. Please be safe and truly thank you all for your kindness and support.

Please know that we are staffed in Woodinville. We are present in and around the city.
